Instagram Update

I justify my use of instagram by saying that one day I plan on actually printing them. It’s great that there are some really great and affordable services that actually print these little square vintage images. I also get a lot of comments from people (in real life) about how they know so much about my life because I’m always putting pictures online. I don’t know if that’s a good or a bad thing. If it counts, not all pictures go on all my social media platforms. There’s actually a thought process as to what goes on where. So if you’re friends with me on Facebook, chances are you haven’t seen most of these. Twitter on the other hand – sorry guys.

My baby

This is my new baby. My deep freeze. I love her dearly, but she’s giving us a bit of problems. Making a noise and all that. So we’re trying to work out what to do with her.

Yuppiechef, I love you.

I randomly won a free voucher on twitter from Yuppiechef. I was super amped (obviously) and quickly snapped up this cookie cutter set I’ve wanted for a while. I’m a big Yuppiechef fan, I bought the most incredible salt & pepper shakers with a wedding voucher, and it’s still a conversation starter. Especially love the personalised card – coincidence with the magic reference?

Homemade hummus for the win.

Fresh, homemade hummus.

That is all.

I want presents too.

Greg’s brother has just gone on holiday to visit their cousins and travel and stuff, so we couldn’t not send gifts for the kids. 4 of them, 2 boys, 2 girls – all with very different interests. It was really fun shopping for them.

Now you see me

I have never been a girly girl, but recently I’ve started liking eye-shadow. I’d be lying if I told you I actually know how to apply it properly, but I just mess around for now. One day, I want to be able to do an uber sultry smokey eye. Send tutorials this way please.

I’m famous! (joking, not joking)

I'm famous! Thanks @CosmopolitanSA 😉

Greg buys me Cosmo magazine every month, and in the most recent issue – they published a tweet of mine! They edited it (I mean, who tweets like that?) but that’s ok. It was just a whole lot of articles about changing jobs and stuff which really put my mind at ease about this switch.

Wallpaper, wallpaper.

I just love this wallpaper at work.

So in love with this wallpaper on a wall nearby me at work. What’s not to love?

My dad found some of my old artwork.

A post shared by Lee-Ann Lipman Gelb (@leelipman89) on

My dad was clearly cleaning up old stuff at the house last night and sent me this picture I sent my mom. It’s pretty sweet. Until I saw at the bottom “from the werst person.” Shame, I wonder what I did.

Mini-me/Lee

Another beauty my dad sent me. I think I need to trawl my parents house and find old hilarious photos of myself. And now that our printer is also a scanner… Oh Lee-Ann, stop while you’re ahead.

Thanks for spotting by, guys 🙂 Feel free to follow me on my instagram too: @leelipman89 (I promise it’s not all food)

Thank god for spare car keys.

Let me set the record straight – I’m not an irresponsible person (why do I feel I’ve used this line to open a blog post before…). I don’t lose or leave things that are important to me, or important at all, lying around to get lost. Well, thankfully the item in question hasn’t been quite lost, but we’ll get there.

I arrived home yesterday a little later than usual. Had two heavy bags, one from each shoulder, juggling my cellphone, house keys and the little pouch I keep my car keys in. I keep my house and car keys separate, because my mechanic uncle said it’s bad for your ignition to have such a heavy weight of all your keys on it. Anyway. A friend of mine was in Cape Town for the day for work, and I wasn’t able to see her so I returned her call quickly that I missed while I was driving. I get into the flat, put down my stuff, finish chatting and continue with my evening.

Later on we were doing dishes, and I went to fetch the containers I’d had my lunch in that day. I remember it falling out of my bag while I was driving, and realised I must have left it in the car. Greg, the sweet human that he is, offered to go get it for me (keeping in mind, I don’t have a parking in our building, but 2 buildings down from us). I couldn’t find my pouch with my keys, so took out the spare key to my car which I keep in my wallet (a smart move on my dad’s part giving us these keys, as once a couple days before my wedding, my brother had taken the car to Suikerbossie and locked the keys inside by mistake. My dad quickly copied the key and made sure we keep it in our wallet for such situations).

Greg was so glad he went down to fetch it for me, for a number of reasons:

1. He decided to take the lift. We live on the 2nd floor, so while we sometimes take the lift up (lazy, ok, we know) we hardly ever take it down.

2. In the lift was a notice, going something along the lines of “I found a small purse with a virgin active card and what looks like a set of car keys” with her flat number.

YIPPEEEE! it’s MINE!

I could even tell you EXACTLY what was in it (my car keys, earphones, gym card, a business card for Powers Motors and my blistex lip ice)

Unfortunately, the lady wasn’t home for some reason, even later in the evening (if you can still consider 10 o’clock at night “evening”). In my rush to get ready this morning, I didn’t have time to go upstairs to find her. But thank goodness for my spare key. Thank goodness my brother was silly enough to lock the keys in the car, resulting in a spare key. (as a side note, really thank goodness I hadn’t been dumb enough to leave my wallet in the car. Phew)

Truth is, it wouldn’t have been the biggst train smash. Greg and I would have made it work until I got my set back, as he works around the corner from me. But can you imagine the phone call to my dad if I’d lost the keys? No, I wouldn’t like to do that either.

Also, thank god for nice neighbours 🙂

Procrastination Station pt. 2

About a week ago, when Facebook changed my timeline I stumbled across this Facebook note with 100 things about me and started updating it.  So I found some time today to do the rest.

(Funny side note: I actually answered all the questions before deciding to split them into two posts. Stupidly I lost them while copying and pasting other work stuff. So I guess that’s funnier for you than for me.)

Anyway, here you go – the other 50 things you may not know about me. Thanks for the patience 😛

51. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH MEAT?
Define lunch meat?

52. ANY BAD HABITS?
You tell me?

One of the things I’ve realised since getting married, is that I really am as messy as my mom always told me. I guess I’d call that a bad habit.

53. ARE YOU A JEALOUS PERSON?
On the whole no. I dont think so.

54. IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON, WOULD YOU BE FRIENDS WITH YOU?.
Well, I’d like to say so. I hope so.

55. DO YOU AGREE WITH FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS?.
Not really, but I see the convenience. Its still miff.

56. DO LOOKS MATTER?
Its not the most important thing. But you cant be in a relationship with someone that you find horribly repulsive, so you have to be physically attracted to the person to some degree.

I still think that looks do factor into your relationship. Again, they’re not the most important, but there needs to be a part of you that wants to have that person in your intimate space.

57. HOW DO YOU RELEASE ANGER?
I let it wear off. Avoid the thing that made me angry for a while. Or I find someone to vent to.

I used to avoid the person/situation for as long as possible until I decided everything is back to normal. I don’t do that anymore. I still might need some time to cool off, but I try face the situation and talk it out.

58. WHO WAS YOUR FIRST BEST FRIEND?
Jodi Suiza

She was my first friend when I started grade 1 after having moved back to SA. We live in separate cities now, and only see each other here and there but it’s always great spending time with her, her husband and daughter. Our husbands are both nerdy together, so our double dates are the best.

59. WHAT’S YOUR MAIN GOAL IN LIFE?
To have a successful career and be happy with everything I have. Love. Live. Laugh.

OK, that whole “live, laugh, love” corniness makes me feel a bit queesy. I still want to achieve great things career-wise, and I believe I’ll get there. Otherwise I really just want to be happy, with the strength to overcome any challenges that life throws.

60. WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE TOY AS A CHILD?
I remember my dad bought me this little portable dolls house that I could play with on the plane to Israel when we moved there. Had to keep a 4year old entertained somehow.

I’m glad to have lived through a childhood with toys. I wonder how many kids these days play with toys vs on the computer, video games etc?

61. HOW MANY NUMBERS ARE IN YOUR CELL PHONE?
Not sure, but I think over 200?

I have absolutely no idea.

62.WERE YOU A FAN OF BARNEY AS A LITTLE KID?
Yes of course.

We used to have so many Barney videos. When we lived overseas our family used to post us up video recordings of episodes. I remember doing little dances in my friend’s tv room area to some of the songs. My dad used to buy us a new video when he would come back from business trips.

63. Do you use sarcasm?
Sure do.

64. MASHED POTATOES OR MACARONI AND CHEESE?
Macaroni & cheese! Mashed potato has to be mashed like, really well. But I do love mash with peas 🙂 yumyumyum.

Still prefer mac & cheese to mashed potato, but I don’t remember when I had it last.

65. WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A GUY/GIRL?
good conversation and mutual respect

You also need someone who can make you laugh. It’ll keep you smiling for the rest of your life. And smiling is good for you.

66. WHAT ARE YOUR NICKNAMES?
Lee, Anne, Annie, Linky, Leebee

Greg also calls me Leeg (pronounced Lee-j). Not sure were that came from.

67. FAVORITE SUPER POWER?
Mind control? Or that thing where you can move things with your mind… no, as if the world isnt a lazy enough place as is. I had such a good answer for this in Israel once, but I dont remember now. And I stopped watching Heroes a long time ago, which gives a good scope of possibilities.

A power that would give me more time in a day. More time to nap, to eat, time to chill after household stuff, time to go out, to watch movies, to play games. Oh, and maybe the ability to not get tired 😛

68. WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE TV SHOW?
At the moment loving Vampire Diaries, Modern Family, Sex & the City, Glee and Gossip Girl.

It’s funny, out of those I only watch Modern Family. I haven’t watched Glee in a while, and I’m slowly rewatching Sex & the City. Current faves are 2 Broke Girls and The New Girl. Also love Survivor.

69.WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO DEAL WITH YOUR ENEMIES?
Dont make them angry.

Give them cake.

70. WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM FLAVOR?
Oh that one we had at Haagen Dasz was yum! but i love ice cream. its my favourite food group.

Not chocolate.

71. DO YOU HAVE ALL YOUR FINGERS AND TOES?

73. PLANS FOR TONIGHT?
chilling at the hotel nearby, then getting this essay started.

74. WHERE DO YOU WANT TO LIVE WHEN YOU ARE OLDER?
Well, Cape Town for as long as I can. After that, who knows where the wind will blow?

Right now I am even more in love with Cape Town. Ever having to leave would be such a fight, I can hardly think about it.

75. DO YOU WANT EVERYONE TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS?
No, as if I can afford more procrastination of reading 100s of answers from other people.

No, please don’t. I don’t think I have the time to read it all.

76. WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO?
The sprinkler going outside my window. My window is open. So i feel the sprinkles.

Funny, I haven’t had a radio in my car for the last 2 years, so I’m really not into music. But after talking to an old friend I’ve been listening to a band he introduced me to called Jack’s Mannequin.

77. LAST THING YOU DRANK?
I dont remember, probably water.

This is probably the same answer. Actually, I know it is because I recall reminding Greg we need a new filter.

78. LAST PERSON YOU TALKED TO ON THE PHONE?
called jess for her bday last night 🙂

My call log says my dad.

79. THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE IN THE OPPOSITE SEX

81. FAVORITE THING TO HATE?
Delores Umbridge.

Yes, still!

82. FAVORITE SEASON OF THE YEAR
Each have their benefits. I like this “becoming winter” vibe, only if I’m in bed. Otherwise as long as its warm and sunny and cool in the shade I’m good 🙂 I dont like being cold. Or being too hot. Both are just unpleasant.

I like the comforting warmth of winter sun vs the hot summer sun. I guess I like sunshine. Can that count?

83. WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE TYPE OF CANDY?
Are biscuits candy? Could totally handle a kilo of shuk sweets though right about now 😦

I don’t think I eat too much “candy” these days. But I do like dessert 🙂

84. HAVE YOU EVER REALLY AND TRULY HAD A BEST FRIEND?
Yeah I think so. Times change though and so do people. Now I think that I have a handful of really fantastic friends who are each able to be there for me for different things at different times.

When you’re older, you have so many friends who are all their for different times and purposes in your life. They’re equally special and important.

100. DESCRIBE YOUR LOVE LIFE.
Very happy in a relationship, what more is there to tell?

Married to Greg for over a year now. We still sometimes find it mad to believe.

Procrastination Station.

Do you a remember a few years ago, before Facebook had a million updates and people still used the “notes” feature? I can’t even think of what the equivalent of that would be today. Remember when people would fill in those questionnaires like “ABC of Me” and things like that? I remember filling in tons of those in attempt to escape University assignments. I’ve found one from April 2010, which is almost exactly 3 years ago. Lots of bloggers out there are doing more personal posts, and I guess this is pretty personal. I’ll add some comments to what has changed, and let’s take it from there. Because it’s kinda long… I’ve decided to split it. Catch the other 50 another time folks!

100 Things You Might Not Know About Me…

1. ONE OF YOUR SCARS, HOW DID YOU GET IT?
Small scar on the palm of my left hand. Was at a barmi sitting on the floor with friends and when we got up to go somewhere, I didnt notice the broken glass next to me…

I still have this scar. But I guess I’d forgotten about it. More recently I got a scar down my shin, from a walk down to the beach on camp. I stood on some piece of wood which scraped down my leg.

2. WHAT IS ON THE WALLS IN YOUR ROOM?
Photos from Israel, a year planner, a mirror, some small canvas-y things from the shuk in Tel Aviv, a bookshelf.

I now live with a boy, and I’m married. So no more photos of friends stuck with prestick to the walls. No, no. We acually don’t have anything on the walls. We do have a hanging strip of metal rope which holds photos with some pretty heart shaped magnets.

3. DO YOU SNORE, GRIND YOUR TEETH, OR TALK IN YOUR SLEEP?
As far as I know – none of the above.

Still none of the above. Though Greg does sleep talk occasionally.

4. WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN TO?
I like the radio. So whatever is playing there really.

I don’t have a radio anymore in my car (it’s been over 2 years now still it was stolen) and I’m still not that into music. So I guess whenever I’m at gym I listen to whatever interesting I can find on my iPod. The other day it was the Spice Girls.

5. DO YOU KNOW WHAT TIME YOU WERE BORN?
Apparently the early hours of the morning…1am-ish.

That hasn’t changed.

6. WHAT DO YOU WANT MORE THAN ANYTHING RIGHT NOW?
The determination to get this film essay done.

I wouldn’t mind an overseas trip. An adventure would do this working girl some good. Or the ability to buy our own home, I’d like that too.

7. WHAT DO YOU MISS?
Israeli hair product. And my white boots, I have them…but they’re kinda dying. And yes, I guess I miss some people around the world too.

I guess it’s still just those friends around the world. There are a special bunch of you out there.

8. WHAT IS YOUR MOST PRIZED POSSESSION(S)?
Maybe my harddrive cuz I store a FORTUNE of stuff on there. All my school work from about grade 10 up, all my art pracs/designs, tons of photoshop resources, also all my photos ever taken from grade 10 up as well as many movies and series, but those at least are replacable.

I guess still my harddrive. And my engagement ring. The charm bracelet I got from Greg for my 21st and the bracelet he got me for our first wedding anniversary. Maybe all the books I’ve collected over my life?

9. HOW TALL ARE YOU?
Not very.

Sadly this hasn’t changed either.

Nah.

12. THE LAST PERSON TO MAKE YOU CRY?
I dont recall

Greg. It’s not always a bad thing.

13. WHAT’S YOUR WORST FEAR?
Lacking purpose. Losing very important people. Dying alone.

I haven’t really thought of fears like that in a long time, I guess that means things are pretty good. But some of those already mentioned do ring true.

14. WHAT KIND OF HAIR/EYE COLOR DO YOU LIKE ON THE OPPOSITE SEX?
I wouldnt say I have certain criteria, hey. Whatever you have looks great on you 🙂

Whatever is on Greg?

Heeey, I still like those 🙂

I dont know how often I’ve even been in contact with a goldfish…

21. WHAT WAS THE FIRST MEANINGFUL GIFT YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED?
Letters usually do it more that gifts.

I love the two bracelets Greg has bought me. The charm bracelet from my 21st (which I got later in 2010, after this note was written) has charms which represent qualities I have.

22. DO YOU HAVE A CRUSH?
I wouldnt call it a crush…

On Greg, always 🙂

23. ARE YOU DOUBLE JOINTED?
nope

24. FAVORITE CLOTHING BRAND?
I dont have a favourite brand.

Is cheap a brand?

25. WHO IS YOUR FAV FEMALE/MALE CELEBRITY?
Oy, I’m not much of a celeb fan hey. I dunno… Tim Burton is kinda cool. And I always had a crush on Daniel Radcliffe, even though he’s grown up and looks like a nerdy person as opposed to a nerdy kid. Maybe its just the Harry Potter-ness, can he be my favourite celebrity?

Right now, Jennifer Lawrence. But just because she is team-awesome.

26. DO YOU HAVE A PET RIGHT NOW?
sadly.

My parents have one. We don’t. But Greg will forever try to get a cat.

27. WHAT KIND IS IT?
sascha (god, I dunno how to spell it!), stupid black labrador.

28. WOULD YOU FALL IN LOVE KNOWING THAT THE PERSON IS LEAVING?
I’d try stop myself. But I dont have to think about it, he decided not to 😉

For those who don’t know, Greg was meant to finish his degree in America. At around that time we started “vibing” so it was kind of will-we-wont-we situation. Eventually the funding side of things didn’t work out for him, he decided not to go, and we started dating.

84

31. BLONDES OR BRUNETTES?
brunettes

Never been in.

We went to America at the end of 2010. It was only a week but it was incredible. We’re planning on going back.

35. YOUR WEAKNESSES?
biscuits 😦

I’m not sure, but it’s not biscuits anymore (much easier when you don’t keep them at home)

36. MET ANYONE FAMOUS?
Shayne and I met that guy from Idols, well he walked past, Shayne told him he was cool, and he told her she was cool. The end. Maybe that counts as Shayne meeting him. So no.

Everyone at Madame Tussaud’s, does that count?

37. FIRST JOB?
Well, I design posters and it gets me a bit of money but I wouldnt call it a job.

I have a real job! I’m a Social Media Community Manager. I also do a bit of strategy, a bit of digital PR, some media liason. Busy gal.

38. EVER DONE A PRANK CALL?
Not me personally, but we did sit around one night in Israel, the girls, in a field on the side of a highway in pitch darkness prank calling the guys. Funny times. Along the Yam ’08 🙂

39. DO YOU THINK EVERYONE OUT THERE HAS A SOULMATE?
Without a doubt. Someone has been crafted just for you. Just wait and see.

I guess I do. But if you don’t find them, it’s not like you can’t live your life with purpose.

40. WHAT WERE YOU DOING BEFORE YOU FILLED THIS OUT?
Procrastinating of course, with real good intentions to start typing up my essay.

I’m attempting to do this on my lunch break. It’s taking a couple days though.

41. HAVE YOU EVER HAD SURGERY?
I had my wisdoms removed?

Twice

44. WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY?
Well I’m meant to be getting a laptop. Perfume? A watch? A trip overseas wouldnt go down too badly?

45. HOW MANY KIDS DO YOU WANT AND THEIR NAMES?

50. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING?
Depends how much of a hurry I’m in. Generally not really, but it does the trick.
