I have some real love for graphic designers. Those talented souls who can create awesome out of nothing. Somewhere deep in my heart I have an ingrained love for packaging design. If you can make the packaging of a product awesome enough that I actually want to keep it, well, you have skill.
A design company called Antrepo took some well known brands and did a bit of an experiment, stripping the graphics down to their bare minimal. Called Minimalist Effect in the Maximalist Market, they asked users to pick which of these 3 phases they prefer.
None of the featured designs are new packaging proposals, they just explore design practice and unnecessary clutter on global brands.
It’s funny, because these are all brands we know, love and/or use, and I’m somehow compelled towards the simpler designs. I love the third options, completely stripped down to the bare basics of design and colour, which still remains true to the integrity of the brand, but even the simplified second option has me smiling. Which are you drawn to the most?
